KANGAR – Two General Operations Force (GOF) personnel on duty at the Malaysia-Thailand border post in Padang Besar here were shot at early today, believed by smugglers.

In the 3.10am incident, one cop died at the scene. The other was seriously injured, and has been hospitalised.

The victim is identified as Corporal Baharuddin Ramli, 54, while the injured officer is Corporal Norihan Tari, 39.

Norihan, who is now at Tuanku Fauziah Hospital here, is said to be in critical condition.

Baharuddin’s body was taken to the same hospital.

North Brigade GOF commander SAC Abdul Ghani Mohamad Ji confirmed the incident to The Vibes, and said more details will be released later.

It is understood that Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador is on his way to Perlis to review the incident.
